Shirley Ritts Was An American Interior Designer

Shirley Ritts was an American interior designer who was born on October 28, 1920, and died on February 24, 2008. In 1950, she married Herb Ritts, Sr. (the parents of famed photographer Herb Ritts Jr.), who was the proprietor of a furniture company named Ritts Co., L.A.

Ritts Co., LA, was a major contributor to the rise in demand for rattan furniture in the United States throughout the 1950s and 1960s. In the decades that followed the conclusion of World War II, there was a significant demand for rattan furniture, which the Ritts Company was able to profit from. Herb Ritts Sr. was in charge of the company's furniture design, while Shirley was in charge of the company's business growth and customer service.

The Ritts' company also made a line of high-end Lucite furniture. These Lucite pieces today are highly sought after and collected.
