20th Century Danish Oil on Canvas by G. Schavemaker. The low horizon is a typical feature in Dutch landscape painting, allowing the subtly colored cloudy sky to form an important part of the composition. This watery landscape near Zaandam features a Dutch farm house, mill, and two boats is beautifully executed reminiscent of the Dutch master of the 18th and 19th century (The Claude Monet painting “A Windmill” was painted near Zaandam in 1871). Zaandam was a large milling center. Thousands of windmills powered saws that were processing wood for shipbuilding and paper. This painting was purchased in Zaandam Holland in 1979, it is framed and the canvas measures 35' x 23 1/2' (framed it measures 40' x 28 1/2'). Excellent condition.
